Guess What...?

Do you remember that cute little well drilling rig I wrote about awhile back?  Drilling Rig  I think I mentioned that my honey has a gift for making such acquisitions and now, yep, we are the proud owners of the 1923 White truck with the drilling rig on the back.

Here's what it looks like as a yard ornament in our front yard:
A few hanging pots full of fushias should brighten it up a bit, what do ya think?

A "Banana Smoothie" for your Apple Tree

We don't have much for fruit trees, three apple trees and one plum tree, but every spring I make smoothies for my trees.  These smoothies are put in the trees right before they bloom and are supposed to attract the insects that lay their eggs in the bloom end of the fruit.  I really don't know how well it works, but we have nice apples every year and I'd like to think this is helping.
Here's the recipe:
1 mashed banana
1 cup sugar
1 cup white vinegar

Put into a milk jug and fill 2/3 full with water.  Mix well and set in the tree.  I tie this in the upper trunk of the tree and just leave it for a month (or two if I forget).

I think I'm going to invest in more apple trees this spring.  We never seem to have enough fruit.

Be blessed.

Back With Pictures

So I thought the weather was bad here at home.  Up the road about 20 miles, where we had the animal swap, it was even nastier.
The parking lot which should be full of people admiring animals.  Not so much. :)
A few of my roosters wondering why I don't close the door.

There were some out in the lot, huddled together admiring goats.
This little doeling found herself in the town hall. She's so relaxed and warm, she's falling asleep.
We ended up with rabbits, duckings, dogs and goats inside.  The chickens, sheep and horses stayed out.  No pigs or laying hens this year, and of course, that's what everyone was looking for.

There are animals swaps scheduled for the next two weekends at other locations.  I think I may try and get rid of my roosters again.

I did spend most of my time inside, drinking coffee and eating caramel rolls.  It's a good day for it.

Off to the Animal Swamp... I mean Swap

Today our 4-H club host our annual animal swap.  Today the snow is falling in large, wet  clumps.  I'm already soaked to the bone and need to change into some dry clothes before we leave.  I'm bringing the camera so you can enjoy pictures of wet critters later on today.
I'm bringing caramel rolls for the bake sale and my plan is to drink coffee and eat indoors where it's warm and dry.  If anyone sees some stray chickens in the parking lot-you can keep what you can catch.

A Most Excellent Day

I don't think that the Lord could have made a more perfect day than the one we were blessed with today.  70 degrees, a brisk west wind and total sunshine.  It was wonderful. I was also blessed with abundant energy. Don't know exactly why that happened, but I just went with it.

The best thing accomplished today?
I got the garden disked.  You can see my 560 sitting there after a hard day's work.

Monday they say snow.  Today was drop dead gorgeous.

Hope you were blessed, too.

Cutest Baby Photos

We have just about all of our calves on the ground now.  Only two cows left to calve. Most of our calves aren't named, but most of them get shipped, so it might be a good thing.  Calves are so cute, especially when they run and jump and play together.  A friend said that we'll be like young calves when we get to heaven-just so happy and full of energy.
So...let me introduce you-

Our calves are Angus/Gelveih (sp?) cross.

The little guy above, we call Socks. Both of his back feet are white.
This little girl has a VERY protective mother.  Mama threw my honey around a bit.  She's settled down a bit now.

This little boy is from my milk cow.  He's Jersey/Normandy/Angus cross.  He's a real cutie and slightly brindled.  I love his markings.
Okay, so she's not a calf.  You remember my Sadie?  Well, then you remember that she doesn't miss a photo op.  She's an excellent guardian and a good friend.  The white critter to the right is her mama, Daisy.

So how do you pick the cutest baby from all of these contestants?  I think they're all winners.  I love spring on the farm!!!

Drilling Wells

So what does treasure look to you?  This is what it looks like to my honey:
I have to admit that this little well drilling truck is awful cute.
A little TLC and we could be in business.  My honey's favorite job is drilling wells.
This truck isn't ours....yet.  He has a way of wheelin' and dealin' and we could possibly be the new owners of a 1923 White well drillin' rig.  Or not, as the Lord wills.
Life is so exciting, isn't it? and the possibilities endless.-I wonder how much it would cost to send the rig to Africa?????New mission fields are everywhere.
