Dutch Oven Cooking

Well, maple tapping is over and I have left in my yard a firepit that I made for boiling down the sap.  With summer coming on and with the rising price of electricity, I thought I'd utilize this new piece of equipment.  I've been looking at sites with recipes for cooking in a Dutch Oven. Two of the sites I've found are  http://papadutch.home.comcast.net/~papadutch/dutch-oven-recipes.htm  and http://www.legendsofamerica.com/WE-DORecipes.html  .

I know some of you out there are seasoned Dutch Oven users so any favorite recipes or words of advice would be great.  I think this means that I'll also have to redo my menu to include cooking outside at least three times a week.  Sound like fun??

I haven't cooked in my Dutch oven for a very long time but used to use it lots. I will think about this just about anything can be cooked in the dutch oven including bread. Sounds like fun. Now I will have to dig through my wordly possessions and find my old Dutch oven and clean it up and re-season it. Think I will take up the challenge if I can find it. Have fun!

It does sound like fun! I used to have a great recipe for cherry cobbler that we used to make when camping. However that was a long time ago. Cobbler is very easy in a dutch oven though and served with some homemade ice cream is a great end to a country day! Have a great weekend. Penny

Don't mean to get off topic but how's Esther? Oh, guess how I found the sheep shearer? I asked at the elevator where we buy grain and the manager shears sheep! That was easier then I thought. Although, after watching him, I'm in the market to buy a shears for myself... I figure I can have the shears paid for in a couple years. He charged $7/per sheep. I didn't think that was too bad.

No I cannot imagine knitting sweaters for all those chickens but I can sure see them pecking at each others sweaters until nothing is left. Crazy I tell ya!! Too funny~~~

My Honey and I are having a great time together He doesn't have to leave until early Monday morning. So off to visit our son and family (grandchildren) that lives closest to us today and then church this evening and it is potluck night there too so I can hardly wait. Funny how I don't see anyone for days or weeks and then suddenly I see lots of people for a few days in a row. God is good! Roxanne
