Need Advice

Saturday was one of those frustrating days for me.  I'm not sure if I just let everything build up, and then let everything blow up!  My honey said that I did blow things way out of proportion.  The gist of it is this:  I spend a lot of time trying to eat healthy.  Gardens, fresh eggs, cook from scratch, local meat, etc.  My honey likes chips, cookies, WHITE BREAD!, bacon, peanut butter, pop, etc.  He will eat what I cook, but there are a lot of things that he doesn't like.  Saturday I told him, I just give up.  We'll have frozen pizza and hot dogs from now on.  Maybe I did get a little carried away.....Anyways, I'm not going to give up now that I've settled down.  I need to find foods that are low in salt (his blood pressure is up a bit), low in fat, don't give him heartburn and something that he'll eat.  Maybe something that he'll like!  Spaghetti, meatloaf, goulash, casseroles, these are some of the foods he likes.  They just don't seem too healthy to me.  Does anyone have some healthy casserole recipes?  Do you think he would like it if I tried using the Nourishing Traditions book?  I don't have it, but I was thinking of getting a copy.  He tells me that he looks forward to being in glory, so why not eat what he likes?  I love this man soooo much.  I believe it's my job to take care of him.  Any advice?

I too have a husband like yours and with two heart stints in one year. I have figured out that the only way for me not to become frustrated is to do things slowly. Like anything, one step at a time. I first started out by switching bread to wheat, then flour to unbleached, then etc. Little by little works and the body gets adjusted to changes easily. I am now in the process of switching sugars, which came with a big grumble, but in time that will change. I do allow chips in the house if they are baked or Pringles. I do bake cookies but with better ingredients. It takes time and patience.

Hi There,

I just bought Nourishing Traditions and have experimented some. It's quite a change from our "normal" cooking. But I'm determined to make some changes. I love it so far. It's so INFORMATIVE, I had no idea just how uninformed I've been even though I've always had a quest to cook home made meals and felt great about it boy was I wrong. There's a whole new world beyond just "cooking at home" I'm loving it and am excited to finally have a source for real nutritional needs. There's a few things that I probably won't ever try (there's a chapter on the value of organ meats) But I BELIEVE in the information and don't quetion whether it's good for us, it's just a personal thing. Just do what you can and trust God with the rest.

There is not much you can do about the unhealthy snacky food, if he is going to eat it he will... maybe you can get the whole grain "white"bread. Make the spagetti healthy, fill it up with vegies and blend em up, instead of hamburger use a mix of very lean hamburger and ground chicken or turkey, whole wheat noodle.. would be plenty healthy.. same with meatlaof grind up vegie and mix in with it.. mix the meats again.. use very lean meat...if he HAS to eat bacon get low salt bacon.. replace the oils in your house (if you havent already with canola oil and olive oil) if he is a butter eater take a cube of butter and mix a 1/2 cup canola oil it in makes a great buttery tasting spread...

I do understand how frustrating it is..but all you can do it keep the healthy stuff available, he has to make his own choices...
