Week #5

Hard to believe that summer's slipping away.  Summer garden crops are giving way to fall crops.  I hope to keep the CSA up and running into October.  Hoping.

The green beans and cucumbers are abundant and I am so grateful.  The rutabagas, broccoli and brussel sprouts could use some cooler weather.  Looks like we might have to skip broccoli this year.

It's time to put food up for the winter.  Canning and dehydrating and my kitchen is always a mess.  I'm going to try Mama Pea's recipe for fermented vegetables.  Just finished up some dill pickles.
Have more beans to can and more garlic to dehydrate.

God is good.  Life is busy.

...looks like you've been busy...I didn't make any dills this year...as we still had some left from last year...I guess we just don't eat as many as I'd thought...

...I was noticing just yesterday that the days are getting noticeably shorter...so fall is definitely on the way...

~Have a lovely day!

You're so right about summer slipping away. And is harvest time ever anything but frantic . . . and messy? (Not around here!) I'm into beans and blueberries as "must do" harvests right now. Yes, I'd sure like some cooler weather for my (experimental) fall salad fixings, shell peas and cauliflower. (First crop of cauliflower bolted in the hot, humid weather.)

affectioknit-Abundant cucumber crop this year. My honey eats a lot of pickles. I hope I can put up enough for two years.

Mama Pea-I wish I had blueberry plants. The wild ones were abundant but very small on our land. Raspberries were good, though. Waiting for cranberries (wild) not the Ocean Spray ones, which I still have plenty of. :-{

Sometimes a lot of something . . . goes a long way! ;o)

I do pickles only every other year, too. Did them last year and wouldn't ya know it we seem to be going through more dill pickles than ever before! I may have to start rationing them. Bread and Butter pickles? No problem as hubby doesn't eat those. Just me . . . and the occasional jar I give our daughter who will sit down and eat a whole pint jar of them. Can you imagine!?
