Week #2

News from the garden-
Deer have found the peas.  I should still get a decent amount, but they ate off the tops of some of the plants.

This week's boxes will have peas, basil, lettuces, chard, kale, carrots and maybe a few onions.  This is more of a challenge than I thought it would be.  Surely a learning experience.

My herbs beds are growing like crazy.  Unfortunately, the good growth has overshadowed my little rosemary and thyme plants and they're stunted.
Looks like rain this morning.  Better get out there and get some things done.

I got my second big harvest of peas yesterday. (Started out with a small one early on.) One more and I should have an adequate amount in the freezer for the year. Yippee. I am selfish and will not share with the deer. I'm amazed you can garden without fencing to keep the deer out. Did they get at anything else but the peas? Sounds as though your CSA boxes will be full of nutritious garden produce this week.

Mama Pea,
I did get plenty of peas for the CSA this week. The deer don't usually find my garden until later in the fall when they finish off my broccoli and the kale. We have a big dog, he helps, and pastures around two sides of the garden. Enjoy this perfect weather. Garden is finally drying up.

affectioknit-Thanks. Looks like the deer have left for the time being.

I had to laugh at your " . . . deer don't usually find my garden until later in the fall when they finish off my broccoli and kale." So sorry, but that struck me funny. Gotta love the beautiful, wild, woodland creatures even though they can drive us to distraction. Give that big dog of yours a pep talk and promise more treats if he goes into high gear in keeping the deer away!
