Grocery Day

You can tell when the groceries are getting low at our house.  Kids are complaining about no snacks and I make a lot of trips to the cellar to get food.
Living out of our cellar stock isn't really that bad.  Today, for dinner we dined on home grown mashed potatoes with home grown hamburger gravy.  I opened some home canned corn, applesauce, rhubarb desert and pickled garlic scapes.  It was a complete meal made completely from what we've raised ourselves.
So now it's off to town to buy some groceries.  Just wanted to say what a blessing it is to have food in the cellar.  We're working on using up our reserves to make room for this year's bounty.
God is good.
P.S.  My spinach is up and it's snowing right now!!

That is wonderful. We have used most of reserves and I have been going to the Farmer's Market. This year our garden is going to be bigger. We have never planned a fall garden but this year (Lord willing) will be the first of many.
God Bless. "Isabella"

It's always such a good feeling of accomplishment when you can feed yourselves and not be dependant on "them"! Love it!

How much richer (and healthier!) you and your family are than the parent(s) who stop at a fast food drive thru for dinner on the way home.

Hi! I have to agree to it being so much healthier to cook your own than to go for fast food. I think it tastes better too! I have just recently started a gardening blog if you would like to take a look. Wanted to share my excitement about gardening! Nancy http://cozythymecottage.blogspot.com/

Hello Rhonda! its a great day. Loved reading and catching up on all your doings lately. Nice looking~~
We too have to use up constantly all that is laid away~`getting some odds and ends here and there in the line of groceries. It makes us resourceful, creative, and humble too. Have a wonderful week end love Roxanne

Isabella-Are you having milder than normal temps there, too? My spinach is still holding on despite some below freezing temps this week.

Freedom Acres-I love eating this way. My family is still trying to adjust. They like their chips and an occasional pop. Are you making cheeses now?

Mama Pea-After the "pink slime" story I stay far from the fast food. I admit, we would stop there from time to time as a treat! We're going to find different treats! :)

Cozy Thyme-Thanks for stopping by. Your herb beds look wonderful. I wish mine were so orderly and weeded! Nice blog.

Roxanne-Hey girl! Nice to hear from you . I'm headed over to see what you've been up to.

Yup, I make cheese 10 months out of the year. Unless the cow is dried up, I make all of our dairy products!
